Hindustan Urvarak and Rasayan to revive Barauni unit

Hindustan Urvarak & Rasayan Ltd – a joint venture of NTPC, Cll, IOCl, FCll & HFCL is planning to revive fertilizer complex in Barauni in Begusarai district of Bihar. The project involves setting up of ammonia plant (2200 tpd), Neem Coated Prilled Urea Plant (3850 tpd) and other allied infrastructure with an investment of Rs. 54580 million. The joint venture has appointed Projects Development India Ltd as project consultant for the project. It may be noted, HFCL Barauni Unit was commissioned in November 1976. The installed capacities of the main plants were 600 MTPD ammonia and 2×500 MTPD urea with self-contained utility and off-site facilities. The plant started its commercial production in November 1976. HFCL, Barauni made huge losses due to continuous non-performance of its ammonia-urea plant. These losses had their own cascading effect. The corporation was declared sick and was referred to BIFR in 1992. The plant was shut down from January 1999. All the employees were released under VSS on 31-12-2002.
