IOC plans expansion programme at Barauni Refinery

Indian Oil Corp is planning to expand its refinery in Barauni in Patna district of Bihar. The project involves expanding refinery production capacity from 6.0 mtpa to 9.0 mtpa. Currently, the refinery consists of 3 main crude processing units namely AVU-I/II (design capacity: 1.75 MMTPA each designed for processing low sulphur crudes) and AVU-III (design capacity: 2.5 MMTPA designed for processing both low sulphur as well as high sulphur crudes).It involves modernization and revamping of units.

The new project involves modernization and revamping of existing units and addition of polymer units, sulphur recovery unit, hydrogen regeneration unit, propylene recovery unit, new polypropylene unit with production of 200 mtpa, with an investment of ₹ 82,870 million.
